History –
Kilchoman parish was established back in the Middle Ages. St Kiaran’s Church was built in 1899 to
be near the centres of population in Port Charlotte and Bruichladdich, replacing
the ancient Kilchoman Church.

Portnahaven Church was built in 1828 to a design by Thomas
Telford and is one of a few Parliamentary churches still in use.

Children - There is a Sunday Club for Children at 11.30 in the Wildlife Information Centre in Port Charlotte. Everyone is welcome between the ages of 3 –12. Please leave your parents at home…. Be assured that all our leaders are registered under current child protection regulations.

We are here to
serve the communities of Kilchoman and Portnahaven and to share the story of
Jesus.

St Kiaran’s was named after Ciaran, a contemporary of St Columba. Ciaran may have been an abbot in Ireland before coming to Islay, founding the church at Kilchiaran, before proceeding to Iona.
Islay is a
very beautiful island which we share with a great variety of
wildlife
